THERE will be a chance to enjoy a cuppa and cake in the comfort of your pyjamas later this month – and all to raise money to support World Autism Awareness Week.
Heart of England Mencap – the local charity supporting people with learning disabilities – will host the Pyjama Day and Coffee Morning on Wednesday March 28th.
It will take place at Pathway – Heart of England Mencap’s day activity service – at 5 Church Green, Atherstone-on-Stour, just outside Stratford, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
The event – open to customers, families, staff and supporters – is all to raise awareness and funds during World Autism Week, which runs from March 26th to April 2nd.
Organised by the National Autistic Society, it’s a week where schools, workplaces, families and friends from all over the UK take part in activities to raise money and awareness for autism, a condition affecting 700,000 people nationally.
Katie Berry, Activities Coordinator for Heart of England Mencap, devised the local fundraiser.
She says: “Autism affects so many people, including many of the people we support, but while we’ve come a long way in raising awareness, there’s still more to be done. That’s why we want to support Autism Week and raise money to help the National Autistic Society to continue raising awareness and providing support – and it’s really important we enable our customers to show their support too. Everybody is welcome to come and join us – the more in their pyjamas the merrier!”
